Material Properties/Material data

Material data form the basis of an FEM calculation in addition to the FEM mesh. The optimal way to do this is to obtain the required values from the material supplier. Very often these are higher than the standard values and can therefore give the evaluation of the strength behaviour a less conservative direction.

The FEM calculation of plastics should primarily be carried out non-linearly in order to be able to determine the stress-strain dependence as accurately as possible.

In this context, it can always be noted that a frequent lack of mechanical expertise can become a source of error. Many people are not aware that the modulus of elasticity in a structure with homogeneous material properties has no influence on the stresses when viewed linearly (stress = force/area).
